Henry Clay Monument (site)

Monument Place
Wheeling, WV 26003

This monument to Henry Clay once stood at Moses and Lydia Shepherd's mansion in Wheeling, West Virginia. Clay was a very good friend of the Shepherds - and it was rumored that Mrs. Shepherd and Henry Clay were lovers!

I was once told the monument had been moved to Wheeling Park, however, this turned out to be a false lead. In the early 20th century the monument was is porr condition and falling apart. It is doubtful that the monument survives.
