John Kennedy Lacock Cumberland Road Postcard No. 80: Maiden Street, Washington, Pa.1908Maiden StreetWashington, PA Caption: Washington is the second largest town between Cumberland and Wheeling. It is a dry town, in that no liquor can be lawfully sold. It is the seat of Washington and Jefferson College, one of the oldest and best known institutions west of the Allegheny Mountains. The high standard of the work required done at this institution has commanded the attention of other institutions in the East and the West alike. It may not be amiss to say that probably no other town of its size in the United States contains so many excellent school buildings, so many churches and so many miles of paved streets as does Washington, Pa. The borough has paved 14,349 feet of the Cumberland Road through this town. Previous Cumberland Road Postcard | Lacock Index
