Elk-Christiana Turnpike (Old Baltimore Pike)DEThe Elk-Christiana Turnpike was chartered in Delaware on December 19, 1812. It was a connecting road between the Elk River in Maryland (Elkton) and Christiana, Delaware. It's length is 10.2 miles. In Maryland the route is designated as State Route 281; in Delaware it is New Castle County Road 20. Locally it is known as Old Baltimore Pike. The Elk-Christiana Turnpike was never part of Route 40.
