This former mining town is a pleasant diversion from Route 40. The gold discoveries here gave the city the nickname 'The Richest Square Mile on Earth.'

The town once boasted a simple boom town charm, however, in 1991, voter approved the opening of casinos. Fortunately, the city's four casinos are housed in unobtrusive historic buildings.
