John Kennedy Lacock Braddock Road Postcard No. 51: Fording of the Great Sewickley Creek, Hunkers, Pa.

1908

Hunker, PA

Caption:

The fording of the Great Sewickley (formerly known as Gowdy's or Goudy's ford) was about one-fourth mile below Hunker. A short distance north of Hunker were formerly located Painter's Salt Works; and a short distance south of Hunker were the well know salt licks. In earlier days great herds of stock were brought to these salt wells which were drilled to a depth of 450 to 500 feet.
