George Stewart U.S. 40 Photograph No. 25B - Mileposts

Middlebourne, OH 43778I was able to determine that the milestone in Stewart's photograph had been removed by an ODOT supervisor and placed in his front yard. The guy who lived at that house told me that a professor from Ohio University asked if he could have the milestone for a college display and he was gald to donate it. Unfortunately, no one at OU knows anything about the milestone and it appears to have disappeared. One day I suppose the milestone will surface. It's hard to get ride of a half ton marker!

I question your placement of this sign. The sign in the picture at the bottom of pg. 128 which reads "Separated intersection. No left turn", shows US 42 as the intersecting road. Unless they've done some radical rerouting in the past 60 years, the intersection of US 40 with US 42 is in Lafayette, Ohio, just east of the Red Brick Tavern. |
