George Stewart U.S. 40 Photograph No. 51 - Idaho SpringsIdaho Springs, CO 80452I nearly killed myself getting this shot. The hillsided used to be bare of trees, however a reforestation project by the D.A.R. has created a green blanket of green on the south slope. While this is great for the environment and certainly pretty to see, it created a nightmare trying to locate the vantage point. There are no trails or roads and my shooting companion and I had to bushwhack for about alf a mile. The hillside was steep, wet and covered with slippery ferns and moss. I was out of shape and my body still hadn't aclimatized to the higher elevations. I was huffing and puffing throughout the entire shoot. When we arrived at the correct vantage point there was no opening in the canopy allowing a decent shot. Finally, we spotted an opening nearby and I was able to cross this off the list. I may return to Idaho Springs at a later time and see if I can find another good alternate vantage point.
