Since 1931, at least four different diners have been used at this site. This is a smoke-free diner! Here are a few vintage postcards showing the New Ideal's past. The New Ideal is the real thing - no kitschy memorabilia in this diner. Supposedly this diner is a favorite of Diner writer and director Barry Levinson.
I believe this diner got its name 'New' to differentiate itself from the Ideal Diner located just up the road in Wilmington.
