Cross-Country Route 40 Bike Trip - Day 23: Kingdom City to Chain of Rocks Bridge, Missouri

Distance: 111.0 miles
Description: This is another easy day's ride. You will travel north of the Missouri River most of the day with very gradual ascents and descents. The pace will pick up at Wentzville and you will follow the old Route 40 Bypass alignment north of Saint Louis. (See the special routing of Day-23A if you are really interested in going through the city. I advise against the city route as the traffic is very intense and crossing the Missouri River will be a challenge. In addition, you will need to ride through East Saint Louis, a city with one of the highest crime rates in America.) Since the Missouri River Bridge at St. Charles does not allow pedestrian traffic you will need to arrange for a ride across the river.
