McMechen's Tavern (site)Formerly/Also Known As McMahon's TavernNational RoadSaint Clairsville, OH 43950 From Searight's The Old Pike (1894): Passing Woodman’s, the next old tavern was McMahon’s, a veritable son of Erin, overflowing with native generosity. This part of the road seems to have been an Irish row, since the next old tavern, after passing McMahon’s, was kept by one McCray. Searight appears to have provided the wrong names. From Centennial History of Belmont County, Ohio, A. T. McKelvey, ed. (1903): Midway [up] the 'big hill' is Woodmansie's, formerly the home of the ditinguished Charles Hammond; then followed in succession McMechen's and McCaffrey's, better known as Good Intent.
