This motel was called the Imperial Lodge when it opened in June of 1959. In later years they called it the Imperial Motor Lodge. On adjacent property (same address) was an older cabin-type motor court that continued to be open while the more upscale Imperial Lodge was in business. That was the El Rio Motel. The owners were Raymond and Vivian Wulf and the Imperial Lodge was their dream. They were hard-working nice people and their kids were raised right there. The neon diving girl sign was amazing. |
