Madonna of the Trail - Indiana2260 East Main StreetRichmond, IN 47374 The monument sits on the southwest corner of Glen Miller Park on U.S. Route 40 in Richmond, Indiana. This monument was dedicated on October 28, 1928. The inscriptions read: West Face: MADONNA OF THE TRAIL N.S.D.A.R. MEMORIAL TO THE PIONEER MOTHERS OF THE COVERED WAGON DAYS South Face: THE FIRST TOLL-GATE IN INDIANA STOOD NEAR THIS SITE ON THE NATIONAL ROAD East Face: THE NATIONAL OLD TRAILS ROAD North Face: A NATION'S HIGHWAY! ONCE A WILDERNESS TARIL OVER WHICH HARDY PIONEERS MADE THEIR PERILOUS WAY SEEKING NEW HOMES IN THE DENSE FORESTS OF THE GREAT NORTHWEST
