Madonna of the Trail

Madonna of the Trail - Kansas

This monument stands on the east bank of the Neosho River at Main Street (U.S. Route 56).

The monument was dedicated on September 7, 1928.

The inscriptions read:

West Face: MADONNA OF THE TRAIL N.S.D.A.R. MEMORIAL TO THE PIONEER MOTHERS OF THE COVERED WAGON DAYS

South Face: HERE, 'EAST MEETS WEST' WHEN THE 'OLD SANTA FE TRAIL' WAS ESTABLISHED AUGUST 10, 1825 AT A COUNCIL BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES COMMISSIONERS AND OSAGE INDIANS

East Face: THE NATIONAL OLD TRAILS ROAD

North Face: 1825-1866 TRAILSMEN 1847-FIRST WHITE SETTLER SETH HAYS. 1847-COUNCIL GROVE TRADING POST.
