Dad Lee

C.B. 'Dad' Lee

Desert rat C.B. 'Dad' Lee was as colorful a character as they ever got along old Route 40. In the 1920's and 1930's he ran this little roadside stand (Dad Lee's) on the northern end of the Forty Mile Desert. In addition to his "museum" he had a little of something for everyone. He sold gasoline, cigarettes, land for prospecting and even a little moonshine on the side.

Lee would often tell visitors that he was the real Buffalo Bill and the other guy claiming the title was an impostor. (I think Lee was subject to way too much desert heat.)

Lee died in 1936. If Lee was the real Buffalo Bill, that would have made him close to 100 when he met his maker.
