Dead Man's Curve - Site of Ohio's First Traffic Fatality

Old National Pike
Norwich, OH 43767

The downhill curve proved to be too much for a fast running stagecoach on August 20, 1835. Christopher C. Baldwin, a librarian with the American Antiquarian Society was killed, becoming the first traffic fatality in the state of Ohio.

In 1925, local historian and National Road good guy Rollin Allen erected a monument to this incident.
